The Amiga 2 is to use the QNX kernel, it has emerged. The news came at a show in Cologne, Germany, although the sources said that the machine is likely to use only the kernel of the operating system, rather than the full version. QNX has made available a demo of the OS for Windows and other platforms which can be downloaded from its site. The OS is a fast and small multitasking piece of software which allows multiple Windows and fast graphics. The QNX kernel has been demonstrated on a machine and the full specs will be available towards the end of the month. The sources said that a team had spent over 18 months researching the market and the Amiga 2 will be aimed at gaming and Internet applications. The Amiga hardware team and the QNX development team are meeting shortly to iron out a working schedule. More information will be posted at this Amiga site in the near future. ®
