Intel and IBM confirmed they were beefing up their joint security initiative and said they were pushing to promote the common data security architecture (CDSA) spec as an industry standard.

The two companies have previously teamed on offering security features but this initiative is to do with IBM product KeyWorks, which works across the AIX, OS/400 and OS/390 operating systems. Intel and IBM aim to educate developers and other communities on the benefits of CDSA, both companies said.

At the Intel Developer Forum in Palm Springs earlier this year, Pat Gelsinger, VP of the desktop platforms group, introduced Intel's plans to incorporate security into the fabric of silicon chips. CDSA is an Intel development aimed at the e-commerce market. ®
