Redmond in rapid rebuild after sysadmin request STUNNER

Microsoft has released a few useful tweaks to System Center Advisor, its online log file analysis, monitoring and alerting service, and says actual users asked for the new features it has created.

System Center Advisor emerged at TechEd North America, way back in May, and offers a graphical representation of log files emitted by servers and other kit. The service is currently in limited public preview.

One of the changes is a new “saved searches” function that tracks past queries about system performance and stores them as a history file you can refer to at your leisure. There's also a new daily data flow meter that Microsoft says will be a handy way to keep an eye on which servers are sending how much data, to where, and when, the better to figure out why some are chatty and others are silent.

Some UI elements have been moved around the page, which doesn't sound remarkable but is at least notable because Redmond says it only made the change because people asked it to. And of course in these amazing SaaS-ified times, it is possible to tweak a product per users' desires without all that tedious waiting for release cycles to turn and re-installing stuff malarkey from the early years of the millennium.

That's not your Grandfather's Microsoft. And that's no bad thing. ®
