Welcome to Heathrow Terminal, er, Samsung Galaxy S5
Just when you thought the London airport couldn't get any more tiresome
Samsung has decided to allow its marketing department's imaginations to take flight, which has resulted in a rather crap plan to effectively rename Heathrow's Terminal Five.
The mega airport terminal in London will feature signs that read "Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5" in a move a Sammy exec described as "one-off opportunity to push the boundaries like no other brand has been allowed to do before".
Er, haven't you heard of the O2 Arena? What about that hideous ArcelorMittal Orbit thing in the Olympic Park, named for the steel and mining company?
A Sammy spokesperson said: "The initiative includes all signage throughout the Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5 terminal – at the entrance and drop-off locations, in the lounges, at security and at the gates. In addition, all 172 digital panels in the main terminal, gate rooms and baggage reclaim areas will feature the rebrand ‘Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5’ and images of the Galaxy S5 smartphone."
Samsung's two-week marketing stunt in the UK follows in the wake of other conspicuously cute efforts. Remember Microsoft spraying graffiti all over New York? No? Well, we don't blame you.
Other notable tech marketing wheezes have included LG's woeful idea to arm customers with BB guns. What could go wrong? ®
