Psssst. Don't tell the Bride, but BBC Three is about to be jilted

Fear not! Sick-splashed flip flops to rise again online

BBC Three fans seeking their fix of that ugly phenomenon chillingly known as factual entertainment will soon only be able to watch programmes commissioned for that channel on the iPlayer, Auntie has said.

The Corporation confirmed rumours on Wednesday that suggested that BBC Three would be axed from our telly screens.

It's the latest victim of the Beeb's cost-cutting plans, but the TV channel - known for churning out such endlessly rewarding viewing pleasures* as Don't Tell the Bride, Hotel of Mum and Dad and Snog Marry Avoid? - could yet be saved by the BBC Trust.

The governing body, which oversees such decision-making on behalf of Britain's licence fee payers, will have the final say on whether BBC Three should shift online.

BBC Director General Tony Hall confessed last week that "tough choices" would have to be made to plug a £100m hole in the Corporation's finances.

The likes of Gavin and Stacey, Little Britain and Torchwood first aired on BBC Three, which has been showing programmes on the small screen since 2003.

The BBC, which broke the BBC story, reported that the BBC will make an official statement about the BBC on Thursday on the BBC. ®
