Daddy EMC pushes past VMware, muscles into Microsoft Hyper-V shops

You heard it right: Windows cloud is EMC's next big thing

EMC has joined a Microsoft Cloud OS Accelerate programme and is going solo into the Windows cloud market – without subsidiary sidekick VMware.

The Cloud OS Accelerate initiative has VSPEX configs set up for Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V virtualisation using an EMC storage platform.

An EMC Proven Solution (PDF) features VNX with SMB 3.0 access providing a storage facility for a mixed workload of SQL Server database, SharePoint, Exchange and Lync unified communications on Windows Server with Hyper-V.

Both of these setups can be seen in Microsoft’s Technology Centers, which EMC sponsors. These centres feature other storage suppliers of course - X-IO is in 14 of them with its ISE sealed storage containers – the ones with a five-year maintenance-free feature. EMC storage has to duke it out with other suppliers in these MTCs.

Microsoft channel partners can bring customers and prospects into these centres to hear the EMC/Hyper-V good news. ®
