HP execs Bradley and Donatelli ready to walk: reports

CEO Meg Whitman said to want managers capable of driving faster change

HP's troubles at the top continue, with formerly high-level executives getting ready to jump ship.

Reuters reports that Todd Bradley and Dave Donatelli are both working on their exit strategies after being “sidelined by CEO Meg Whitman”.

Bradley was head of the merged PC and printer business until June 2013, when he was shunted off to try and get things moving in China. The PC division has been on a long downhill run in the age of the smartphone and the tablet, and HP's spectacular flop with the TouchPad left it without a competitor in the hand-held growth space. Early in 2013, HP raised the white flag in that market by flogging its WebOS to LG.

In 2013, Dave Donatelli was elbowed out of the company's enterprise business, having been lured to HP from EMC in 2009 to run HP's storage and put into the enterprise business by Whitman herself. Instead, Donatelli got the job of touring VCs looking for acquisition target.

At that time, there was speculation that he wouldn't stay in place long.

Reuters says that Bradley will leave HP at the end of the month with a $12 million parachute, while Donatelli will pocket between $8 million and $10 million by staying until March. The sources that tipped the newswire to the pair's possibly-impending departures say the two have not been seen in the HP offices on a regular basis for months.

However, HP spokesperson Michael Thacker told Reuters they were still working for HP. In the first public comment about their changed positions, Thacker said “they were not making progress fast enough on the turnaround, and Meg wanted new leadership in those roles”. ®
