Boffins devise world's HARDEST tongue-twister

Get your mind out of the gutter. You'll never need to pick a pipe of pickled pepper again

Many of will have heard the tale of a lady who sells seashells on the sea shore. Now it's time for the unnamed beach trader to get a new job because MIT boffins have invented the world's toughest tongue teaser.

Stefanie Shattuck-Hufnagel is mad about difficult rhymes, possibly because her own name doesn't exactly trip off the tongue.

She claimed the rhyme "pad kid poured curd pulled cod" was so difficult that some people simply gave up halfway through saying it.

"If anyone can say this 10 times quickly, they get a prize," she said.

She will present her work on “alternating repetitive tongue twisters” to at the 166th meeting of the Acoustical Society of America today in San Francisco.

Her next project will involve strapping transducers onto volunteers' tongues to analyse their speech.

There's no word on whether she will wearing red or yellow leather during her talk. ®
