The latest stupid yoof craze: Taking selfies - while DRIVING

What could be more stupid than spending your days taking pictures of yourself? Snapping a selfie whilst speeding along the motorway, which is apparently becoming a thing.

There are 3,727 pictures on Instagram which use the #drivingselfie hashtag and almost 1,900 using #drivingselfies. Underneath some of these pictures is written the phrase #Ihopeidontcrash, according to a CNN investigation.

"Taking a photo of yourself while you're driving a 2,000-pound vehicle down the road at 50 or 60 miles per hour? That is putting your life in danger and putting the lives of those around you in danger," said Jackie Gillan, president of Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety

"Driving is a really serious thing. Can you imagine if a pilot crashed and we found out that people in the cockpit were taking selfies? People would be appalled."

It's difficult to tell whether people in the pictures are moving or not, but their stupidity is never in doubt. Remember kids: taking a selfie while driving is about as safe as getting behind the wheel after 20 pints.

To hammer home the point, Toyota have produced an ad campaign called "Don't shoot and drive", which shows a number of car crashes which have been edited using retro filters, a la Instagram.

Another Instagram trend in recent times was taking selfies at funerals. Which should probably catch on at about the same rate as driving selfies. ®
