Google-Moto slips out of Microsoft's grapple in German court wrestle

Legal baby oil beats Redmond belly slam

Googorola has scored another win against Microsoft in Germany, as a Mannheim court decided that the ads'n'mobes conglom didn't infringe on one of Redmond's patents.

Specifically the regional court said on Friday that Moto products didn't infringe on Microsoft's patent that allows apps to work on different phones.

"This decision does not impact multiple injunctions Microsoft has already been awarded and has enforced against Motorola products in Germany," David Howard, associate general counsel at Microsoft, told Reuters.

Motorola and Microsoft have been dodging around the patent courts in Germany for a while now, with a few wins under each of their belts. Microsoft has won cases, including one over input on touchscreen devices, and Motorola won a ban on Xboxes that ended up blocked by a US court.

Since Motorola was slurped up by Google its patent strategy has been a little unclear. Although most of its cases are going ahead, with Google saying nothing about them, just lately the phone-maker randomly pulled a complaint at the International Trade Commission against Apple, without giving any reason for letting the fruity firm off the hook. ®
