Instagram on iPhone 5: Now you can spoil even MORE snaps

App tweaked, live image furtling banned

Apple iPhone 5 owners can now ruin tint and enrich more photos in one go on their new mobes, thanks to the extra 18 per cent of screen space and an updated Instagram app.

The photo-filter biz has just updated the user-interface in its software for Apple's mobile operating system iOS 6 and the iPhone 5. The 4-inch touchscreen allows more rows of images to appear in the app's photo stream as well as more widgets around individual photos - such as captions and comments.

Controversially, though, the blur-and-fade app has removed the "live filtration" option on the iPhone build. This feature allowed fanbois to choose a filter while taking the photograph, and was a core feature of the app. However looks like this is an intentional move from Instagram, as the Facebook-owned biz stated on its website:

As of the current release (v3.1), Instagram does not support live filters on the iPhone 5. Going forward, live filters will be phased out as we work to improve the Instagram experience for all users.

Filters can be applied after a pic is taken. There's also more Facebook integration in the new app: users can now fill out a Instagram profile using information pulled from the social network, but Instagram still requires people to open an account separate from Facebook.

The photo-sharing app was bought by Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook for $715 million in September.

Despite faltering during the Facebook deal, Instagram has clocked up impressive user growth in the past year: user stats logged between July 2011 and July 2012 show that visits were up 2,028 per cent in the UK and up an astonishing 17,319 per cent in the US, according to research by Experian Hitwise. Instagram says it has 80 million users worldwide. ®
