Restaurant takes the piss, recycles it as fertiliser

Oz diner closes canola loop with world-first loos

A Melbourne restaurant is collecting its patrons' urine and turning it into fertiliser.

Smart Planet reports that tulip farmer and green installation guru Joost Bakker's latest Greenhouse pop up restaurant has purpose-built loos which take the piss for later re-use.

The restaurant relies on canola oil and the wee is used to create canola-friendly fertiliser, closing the loop nicely. Bakker says wee makes great fertiliser - just 25 deposits can help a hectare of canola to grow.

Bakker's visit to Australia has also seen him build a house of straw, which escaped with all the hairs on it's chinny chin chin when set alight. The house used bales of the stuff as insulation for a steel frame, which then survived a simulated bushfire.

Bakker has blogged about that experiment here .
