Opera updates Jesus phone, BlackBerry browser versions

Data counter to help those on stingy data plans

After what seems like an eternity, iPhone users can download a new version of Opera. Two weeks ago the Norwegian web company updated its Mobile and Mini versions just for Android, but now it has brought those updates to other platforms – including the Jesus Phone.

There are many small tweaks, including more efficient compression. Opera converts web pages into binary chunks that can be downloaded and rendered by its Mini browser. Both browsers gain the ability to share via email, and predictive typing is added.

The most visible new "feature" is a data counter. But since many operators are getting meaner with their data plans, and most people download Opera to speed up browsing over slower connections, this is far from trivial.

Users of BlackBerry, Symbian and Java-enabled feature phones can grab the new versions, 11.5, right away. ®
