Grand Theft Auto V trailer drives onto interweb

Game to be download only?

The trailer for GTA V has finally arrived, confirming rumours that the game will be set in a modern-day Los Angeles-like setting.

Developer Rockstar last week teased us with a holding page that said the trailer was due today. Here's the video in all its glory:

Ahead of the reveal, there has been speculation that Rockstar will sell the game as a download-only digital file. The prediction came from market watcher Newzoo, which reckons we can kiss goodbye to game discs, Industry Gamers reports.

“Boxed games will not disappear, but what is in the box will. That is why the boxed GTA V version will contain a collectible piece of merchandise and a download code. No disc," it said.

We'd be very surprised if that was the case. Industry analyst Michael Pachter also thinks it's a load of tosh, taking to the Twitterscape to discredit the claims.

"It is not possible that GTA V is digital download only, ZERO probability. 40% of 360s sold have 20Gb or smaller HDD.

"Rockstar in business to sell a lot of copies, won't do anything that compromises that goal. It's a profit deal," he wrote.

Pachter reckons if the game is the best in the series, it will probably sell over 24m units.

We'll see about that. It does look pretty cool, though. The wait begins. ®
