US radio evangelist: Apocalypse now

And publishes weekend listening schedule...

Reg readers are advised to get their earthly affairs in order today as the long-predicted Rapture should sweep the good sheep up to heaven sometime after lunch.

The prediction is, of course, from Oakland-based radio evangelist Harold Camping, who nailed 21 October as Rapture day back in May. Camping marked his calendar just after his earlier prediction that an elect group of committed Christians would be physically raised to heaven, while the rest of us are swamped by brimstone and hellfire, failed to come to pass.

Camping, an erstswhile engineer in his 90s, put that earlier non-mishap down to a "mathematical error".

However, he added, that the May day was the "spiritual" beginning of the end.

"But on October 21, the world will be destroyed," he told his followers. "It won't be five months of destruction. It will come at once."

The Associated Press reports that Camping's Oakland HQ was keeping schtum this week.

The Vatican has not issued any apocalypse warnings, and has a regular Papal Mass scheduled for Sunday. As far as we're aware, none of the world's other faiths have cancelled their upcoming engagements.

Indeed, Camping's own website continues to carry details of programming for this weekend. Suggesting that wherever the afterlife is, you will still be able to pick up FM radio. ®
