BlackBerry stumbles to feet, full of apologies

RIM promises not to repeat BlackBerry crumble

BlackBerry services are up again, though still processing a considerable backlog of traffic, but now we have a CEO's statement promising the company will try harder in future.

The services started to come back online during the night, with web browsing in Europe being the last service to be restored. Late last night US customers were still reporting some delays with BBM delivery, and huge backlogs of email traffic have been processed during the wee hours, but we're told everything should be up and running now.

Which is what we were told yesterday morning, and the morning before, so some cynicism is understandable, but now we have a statement from RIM's CIO explaining that the company knows what went wrong, and it won't ever happen again, and that she's very, very, sorry.

"You’ve depended on us for reliable, real-time communications, and right now we’re letting you down," Robin Bienfait starts, accepting the blame being page one of the apologetic drunken corporations' guidebook.

"We are doing everything in our power ... to restore your trust in us", she continues, not asking for forgiveness but promising to demonstrate how reformed RIM will become.

Classic stuff really, but just as with any stumbling drunken corporation the proof will be in how long it can remain upright, and how forgiving those nearby will be if it falls down again. ®
