Apple preps MacBook Pro refresh

Sandy Bridge speed bumps ahead

Apple is preparing a Macbook Pro refresh, that'll bring all models up to speed with Intel's current Core i5 and i7 processors.

Sources told AppleInsider that the refresh is on the cards as early as the end of this month, in order to keep competitive over the holiday season ahead of the Ivy Bridge next-gen refresh in Q2 2012.

The news follows Intel's Sandy Bridge refresh last week, in which the company introduced four new Core i7 chips, slashing prices across the board.

Intel's new 2.4GHz, 2.5GHz and 2.7GHz Core i7 processors are expected to replace the 2.0GHz, 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz found in the current range of 15 and 17in MBPs, while the 2.7GHz 13in MBP is reported to be getting the latest 2.8GHz Core i7.

Other than the speed hike, these souped-up Mac models will see no physical changes. ®
