Digital Realty Trust adds Melbourne

More cloud dollars for Australia

Digital Realty Trust, which recently set up shop in Australia launching work on a Sydney data centre, has added a Melbourne site to its holdings.

After laying out $AU4.1 million, the company has secured space in the Paramount Industrial Park in the Melbourne suburb of Deer Park. The 30,000 square meter-plus site will first be home to four 1440 kW turnkey data centre pods. There is expansion space to support at least two more pods.

The company has now begun submitting development applications for its planned data centres.

"As one of Australia's largest metro areas, Melbourne is the logical market for us to expand our footprint in the region," said Michael Foust, Chief Executive Officer for Digital Realty Trust. "Like Sydney, Melbourne has a limited supply of data centre space available to meet customer demand for highly reliable, flexible and secure facilities."

Foust said he expects the first round of construction to take 12 months.

Earlier, Digital Realty Trust announced the acquisition of space in the Sydney suburb of Erskine Park, which will also support a four-pod initial deployment. ®
