Nearing iPhone 5 launch prompts operator action

Vouchers from T-Mobile

World+Dog is gearing up for the iPhone 5.

Deutsche Telekom today said it will begin allotting the as yet unreleased - or even announced - handset to T-Mobile subscribers by handing those who ask for one a voucher entitling them to the phone when it finally goes on sale.

So said a DT spokesman who spoke to Bloomberg today.

How much the iPhone 5 will cost, DT can't - or won't - say. Nor provide any specs or other details. Equally, it can't force voucher holders to buy the phone after all.

When might it appear? According to a leaked Best Buy document presented by BGR, the iPhone 5 will ship during the first week of October.

The chain's crib-sheet says, on the page for week four of September: "iPhone 5 product introduction expected, pre-sales begin for expected October week one launch."

It also reveals that US operator Sprint will get the phone - despite seeming denials from the carrier itself. ®
