Juniper boosts Oz presence, waits for cash to rain from cloud

Juniper Networks is boosting its presence in Australia as it readies for an anticipated boom in cloud and enterprise grade services.

The vendor has expanded its office in Melbourne, adding 50 local staff .

Juniper Networks ANZ vice president Mark Iles expects the National Broadband Network (NBN) to stimulate cloud computing in Australia with new demand coming from distributed enterprises such as banks, national retailers and government agencies.

"Together with our partners, who account for every dollar that Juniper earns here, we're making the most of some good opportunities that are presenting themselves around the National Broadband Network and enterprises' need for more scalable, flexible and secure networking infrastructure," he said.

The new hires in Melbourne will help Juniper's push into the financial sector, according to Iles. "We are already making headway with some of Australia's largest banks. We obviously hope to build on that, which is one of the key reasons why we're moving forward with this investment in the economy of Victoria and a plan to nearly double our local headcount."

Juniper recently announced that Aussie ISP iiNet is trialling the company's 100 Gigabit per second Ethernet on its backbone network. ®
