iPhone 5 less than a month away

Apple event hints at handset

Apple fanbois and those sick of the constant updates will be pleased to know the Cupertino company is likely to end the perennial iPhone 5 speculation at its annual media event in less than a month.

According to Japanese site Kodawarisan, Apple's event is set for 7 September and while it is traditionally used to launch refreshed iPods – as it did last year – reports suggest a next-gen iPhone reveal is on the cards instead.

Attention has moved away from the iPod range anyway, with Apple even removing the iPod branding from iOS 5's music app, therefore an entire event dedicated to personal music players seems rather unlikely.

The news contradicts recent reports that we'd have to wait until October for the iPhone 5's release. Then again, the amount of conflicting rumours beggars belief.

Either way, I'm sure we'll hear more as the event draws closer. The iPhone 5 has had enough hype already – it's about time the bloody thing was unveiled officially. Even shops in China are selling fake versions already. ®
