Motorola Xoom gets Android 3.1

UK update awakens SD slot

Motorola has released a UK Android 3.1 update for the Motorola Xoom, activating long-awaited features for early adopters.

The patch brings users up to speed with Honeycomb's improved multi-tasking, resizable home screen widgets and keyboard and mouse compatibility, as well as a host of support for other USB or Bluetooth devices.

Crucially though, the update also activates the SD card slot that's been lying idle on the dual core fondleslab since its release. Users can now add an extra 32GB of storage.

Last month many customers complained that the US had been given a Xoom Honeycomb update yet no such patch had been made available in the UK. Indeed, Motorola's tardiness on its Android update promises beyond the US is a regular topic in the comments section following reviews of its products.

The Motorola Xoom is powered by a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core chip and packs in 1GB of memory, a 1280 x 800 touchscreen display, 2.4GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, an HDMI port, GPS, two cameras - 2Mp and 5Mp - 32GB of storage and a MicroSD card slot

The Android 3.1 Honeycomb update for Motorola Xoom rolls out over the air in the UK today. ®
