Two new Ofcom board members appointed

There is nothin' like a dame

The government's culture secretary Jeremy Hunt has appointed two non-executive members to Ofcom's board.

Britain's communications watchdog said Dame Patricia Hodgson had quit her position at the BBC Trust to join Ofcom's board at the start of next month. She had failed to bag the chairman and vice-chairman roles at Aunties governing body earlier this year.

She will have a three-year stint as the regulator's deputy chairman when Philip Graf CBE retires from Ofcom on 1 January 2012.

Hodgson remains as a non-executive director of the Competition Commission and as a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

She previously held the CEO role at the Independent Television Commission before it merged to become Ofcom in 2003.

Dame Lynne Brindley was also appointed to Ofcom's board today. She will resign from her current membership of the strategic management board for the super-fast broadband for Cornwall & the Scilly Isles upon appointment on 1 September this year.

She remains on the Creative Industries Knowledge Transfer Network board.

"It is essential the regulator has people with extensive skills and experience on its board," said Hunt.

"I am delighted to be appointing two such people. They will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the regulator. I have no doubt they will play a major part in helping Ofcom carry out its essential role." ®
