Nokia caters for kings with golden smartphone

Midas touch

Nokia has announced a gold-clad smartphone for spritely spenders, where image is everything and thirst is nothing.

The Nokia Oro - essentially the Nokia C7 with a gangster twist - is a phone you'd expect to find in every pimp's pocket.

While Nokia has previously offered gold models of mobile phones, namely the Nokia 6700, the company has now turned its attention to next-gen handsets and joins the likes of Vertu in offering lavish smartphones made from exorbitant materials.

Nokia Oro

The Oro's body is made from 18-carat gold, with a leather back panel crafted from "premium Scottish stock". It packs a menu key made from sapphire crystal and a 3.5in reinforced-glass OLED display. There's 8GB internal storage, Micro SD expansion and an 8Mp camera with a 720p recording capability. The company also throwing in an 18-carat gold version of its Nokia J Bluetooth headset. Ka-ching.

Of course, the Oro runs Symbian, which according to market watchers will be all but dead in a few years' time. You'll be sending your phone to Cash4Gold before you know it.

The Nokia Oro comes in the choice of either light or dark leather and will cost roughly €800 (£693) when it goes on sale in Q3. So if you want to bring some bling to the ring ting, get saving now. ®
