Israelis seize woman packing 44 iPhones

Pervscanner thwarts stocking-smuggling plan

Operatives at Israel's Ben-Gurion International Airport last week thwarted an elderly woman's attempt to enter the country packing 44 iPhone 4s.

According to Haaretz, the sexagenarian Israeli smuggler had flown in from London, dressed in "a traditional Georgian outfit".

She aroused suspicion by "walking with difficulty", and when approached by customs officials, claimed she wasn't feeling well.

They kindly agreed to accompany her to a pervscanner, where it was discovered she had a substantial congregation of Jesus Phones hidden in her stockings.

As to the possible motives for the plan, Network World notes that while the iPhone 4 has been on sale in Israel for some time, "unlocked versions of the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4 was [sic] retailing for over $800 and $1387 respectively", pointing to a potentially substantial return on investment.

The woman was released pending a decision on whether she'll face charges or a fine. ®
