Acer upgrades Aspire One netbook

Dual-core CPU for the dual-boot D255

Acer has added Intel's new dual-core netbook processor, the 1.5GHz Atom N550, to its Aspire One D250 mini-laptop and re-released it as the D255.

The 10in machine includes 1GB of 667MHz DDR 3 memory and relies on the GMA 3150 graphics engine built into the CPU to drive its glossy 1024 x 600 display.

The D255 has 2.4GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, with both Bluetooth 3.0 and HSDPA 3G cellular connectivity available if you're willing to pay extra.

Like the D250, the D255 comes with Windows 7 Starter and Android - the latter as a fast-boot OS to provide quick access to the web.

There's one caveat for emptors: the N550-based D255 will be out next month for £280, but a version based on the older, single-core Atom N450 is on sale now for £229 with a three-cell battery, or £250 with a six-cell power pack. The N550 version comes with the six-cell battery. ®
