Angry Birds addicts crash GetJar site

12MB of pig-squashing action clogs servers

Android users eager to play Rovio's free Angry Birds game have toppled the servers at GetJar.

Interested parties got an email from Rovio saying that the beta was finally over, and that an advertising-supported version of the irate avian vs larcenous porcine game would be available shortly - initially at GetJar and soon on the Android Marketplace.

While the latter is still bereft of violent birdy fun, the former has folded under the pressure. Those attempting to download the 150-level, 12MB game are being told to give the mobile site a go with this garbled message:

"Dear visitors, GetJar website is experiencing temporary technical problems due to a totally undexpected[sic] high demand for the new free game Angry Birds."

Needless to say the mobile GetJar site is similarly overloaded, but even if you can't get the game downloaded for a bit of Friday afternoon research things should clear over the weekend. Perhaps by Monday we can all be lording it over those poor souls sporting Windows phones - the only platform on which the game doesn't yet run. ®
