Philips readies 'design your own TV' service

Philips is to launch a build-to-order service... for TVs.

Well, sort of. Only one telly family will be featured in the programme, which promises you the opprtunity to "design your own TV in just four steps".

That range is the LED-backlit 7000 series, which is available in either 32in or 42in screen sizes, so there's your first choice for starters. Add to that a choice of wall mount or stand, and you're left with a pick of three remote control colours - "matte black", "dark silver" and "brushed aluminium" - and eight bezel colours.

Philips' telly configuration website is live, but the company won't be taking orders until tomorrow when the service officially launches.

The final price will depend on the options you select, with the service adding from £50 on top of the standard retail price of the telly - £700 in the case of the 32in model. The price includes delivery, and you can expect to receive your creation within three weeks of ordering it, Philips said. ®
