Porn-browsing Oz minister quits

The point of the Great Australian Firewall is revealed at last today - it's to keep Aussie politicians in line.

A New South Wales minister has resigned after admitting using his parliamentary computer to visit porn and gambling sites.

Paul McLeay was the state's minister for ports and waterways.

ABC News reports that Premier Kristina Keneally said: "Some people may choose to undertake similar activities in their personal lives. But I cannot condone the use of parliamentary resources by a minister in this way. The Member immediately apologised and accepted my request to resign."

McLeay's successor has yet to be announced.

NSW, the state of opportunity, has had little luck with recent ministers - four have quit this year over various scandals. Ian MacDonald, known as "Sir Lunchalot" resigned for alleged expenses misuse. David Campbell, another "family values" minister, resigned after being filmed leaving a gay sauna. Another departed claiming disillusion with the political process... ®
