Tesco touts budget textaholic SIM-only deal

But is it really the cheapest?

The British press yesterday trumpeted Tesco Mobile for introducing the supposedly the cheapest SIM-only deal in the market, but a little research shows our colleagues are wrong...here's the deal.

Tesco Mobile

Available online and over the phone, the Tesco SIM-only tariff costs £6 a month for unlimited texts and 100 minutes of calls. Customers are signed up on a rolling one- month contract, and so can easily switch if a better deal turns up. But if they stick with Tesco, they'll receive club card points with each monthly bill.

Tesco says the deal is aimed at a younger market after its research showed 16-24 year olds are the most prolific text abusers and spend more on their mobile contracts than any other age group.

Fantastic, but the cheapest on the market? All it took was a quick look over at 3 Mobile to prove otherwise.

For £5 a month, also on a one month rolling contract, 3 offer 1000 texts with free voicemail, free Skype-to-Skype calls and free Windows Live Messenger. With no inclusive minutes and a limit on your texts, you could argue the deal is inferior, but nether the less, it's still cheaper. ®
