Sony Ericsson unveils yoof-oriented Xperia

Android for the masses

Sony Ericsson has introduced its latest Android-based Xperia smartphone: the X8.

Does the X8 excite? Probably, if you're happy with a 3in, 320 x 480 display, you don't care which version of Android you run - it's 1.6, by the way - and your a TwitBook buff and you want your phone to be an on-the-go entertainment device.

In short, think of it as a lower-cost device aimed at a broader, more youthful group of consumers than is your average Android phone.

Still, it has all the usual messaging and media features of any other smartphone: 3G HSDPA connectivity, Assisted GPS, Google's apps, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, push email and so on.

The X8 goes on sale in Q3. Sony Ericsson didn't say how much it will cost. ®
