Toshiba unwraps 'first' 3D BD notebook

Will play 3D Blu-ray Discs

Updated If you want a laptop capable of playing 3D Blu-ray Discs, Toshiba has the notebook for you.

Launched this morning in the Land of the Rising Sun, the Dynabook TX/98MBL actually goes on sale at the end of July - time enough for one or more of Toshiba's rivals to sneak in a machine of their own.

The TX/98MBL is coming to the UK as the Satellite A665.

If they fail to do so, that will leave the TX/98MBL as the first of its kind: a 15.6in laptop with Nvidia's stereoscopic 3D-ready GeForce GTS 350M graphics chip on board, a GPU capable f flipping between left- and right-eye images 120 times a second. A pair of active shutter specs is included too.

Disappointingly, despite the screen's size, its resolution is a meagre 1366 x 768, so not even full HD.

The notebook also sports Intel's 1.73GHz Core i7-740QM processor, 4GB of memory and a 640GB hard drive.

There's no word yet on Japanese pricing, but don't expect the TX/98MBL to come cheap. ®
