Goodmans GDB300HD

Review The Goodmans GDB300HD is internally identical to Grundig’s GUD300HGD - the case is the only difference. Both boxes, then, have the same, slick interface, primarily in red, though it seems a little less responsive than the Philips or i-Can receivers.

While you can browse the full EPG from the 'now/next' programme info box, that’s about it as far as advanced features go. There’s no USB media playback, or network functionality. And the unit just doesn’t feel as solid as some of the competition.

The front panel is bereft of controls, with just an arrangement of four blue LEDs set in a silver circle - even a channel number would have been an improvement.

The remote has a reasonable feel to the keys, an is a decent size, but overall this box just fails to excite. Fifty quid cheaper and it might have been a bargain.

Verdict

A glossy interface, but the lack of extra features means that this box doesn’t shine. ®

Goodmans GDB300HD

A resolutely middle-of-the-road set-top box with a decent UI but a price tag that's too high.
