O2, Vodafone list simple iPad data deals

Carriers set out their stalls

Updated O2 has followed Orange and announced its 3G data plans for the iPad. So has Vodafone.

Pay £2 to O2 and you get a day's access, which amounts to no more than 500MB of data.

Want more? 1GB and 3GB allowances are available for £10 and £15, respectively. These are monthly limits, but they're on 30-day contract. The following month's fee is automatically deducted, O2 said, but punters have 24 hours to cancel before this happens.

Cancellation can take place on the iPad itself, said O2, adding that customers will be notified as they approach their data limit with a direct link to iPad settings to check data usage, top up the account and upgrade or cancel their tariff.

All tariffs include 'unlimited' access to BT Openzone and The Cloud Wi-Fi hotspots, O2 said.

Vodafone's offering is 250MB 1GB a month for £10 or 5GB for £25, both on a 30-day contract.

All three carriers have promised to provide iPad-friendly micro Sim cards by the time the device debuts over here: it goes on sale on 28 May, and Apple today started taking advance orders.
