Orange to launch mobile games store with HMV
All networks covered
Orange and high-street retailer HMV will next week launch what they claimed is a first for a UK mobile phone operator: an online games download store for Java-enabled phones.
The ship will be branded "HMV Mobile Games" and be tagged as "powered by Orange". Even so, it will be open to gamers who use any of the other networks.
Games will be priced a £1 or more, with new and A-list titles coming in at between £3 and £5. Orange users will have the cost of their downloads added to their bills, or knocked off their PAYG credit, while other networks' users will have to pay online there and then.
The site also offers game previews and demos, plus review content.
HMV Mobile Games will go live on Friday, 26 March. The storefront app gets pushed via SMS to mobiles that text "hmv" to 87010. ®
