Acer said to be readying glass-lidded laptop

Frameless in the name of thinness

Acer is preparing to release a very skinny - and, dare we say it, incredibly fragile - notebook with a glass-backed frameless display.

So claim an unnamed source cited by DigiTimes, who say the laptop will also feature a touch-sensitive keyboard.

Given how thin notebook keyboards are already, we're not sure how much thickness this will actually save, but removing the outer panel of the laptop's lid and relying instead on the LCD panel's glass substrate will shave several millimetres off.

The mole said Acer will use reinforced glass for the display, the back of which will be painted in the notebook's chosen hue. Even so, we'd still be wary of carrying one around. Laptop panels are delicate enough as it is - and that's with a metal or plastic bezel to shield the screen.

The laptop will debut in Q2, the source said. ®
