T-Mobile to revamp tariffs

T-Mobile has confirmed it is to introduce new 18-month and two-year pay monthly mobile tariffs on 1 February.

The contract period missing from that sentence is ’12-month’ – these are expected to be ditched by the cellco.

Instead, the longer-length tie-ins will come with a free “booster” – a choice of unlimited texts, unlimited UK fixed-line calls, up to 1GB of internet access a month, or any of a variety of inter national call packages.

Punters can change boosters on a monthly basis and buy extra ones for a fiver a go.

The contracts will range from 100 minutes and 100 texts for £15 per month to 1200 minutes and 500 texts for £35 a month. An 18-month package will be £5 more expensive that the same-airtime two-year subscription. T-Mobile executive John Fannon told trade paper Mobile News: “The new tariffs are like a Chinese menu – it’s very easy to choose what you want.” A month later, on 1 March, T-Mobile will roll out new Sim-only tariffs, again with a choice of one booster, or more if you’re willing to pay a fiver a throw.

One-year Sim-only deals run from 600 minutes and 500 texts for £15 a month, to 1200 minutes and 500 texts for £25 per month. Month-by-month packages cost between £10 and £25 for, respectively, 100 minutes and 100 texts or 900 minutes and 500 texts. ®
