FCC website outs HP smartbook
AirLife to feature always-on HSDPA 3G
HP has received US Federal Communications Commission approval for a device dubbed the Compaq AirLife 100 and listed on the FCC website as a "smartbook".
The FCC's pages, found by blog Wireless Goodness, reveal the device has Bluetooth EDR, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, dual-band HSDPA 3G and dual-band GSM/GPRS/Edge connectivity on board.
More than that, we can't say, though a schematic of the FCC ID-quoting label vendors have to stick on their kit shows a device with a netbook profile and highly rounded corners. Tablet perhaps? It's possible, but the 'smartbook' ident suggests it's a clamshell gadget with a keyboard.
And an ARM-based processor, presumably a Qualcomm Snapdragon since that's the company that coined the term for a netbook with a non-x86 CPU and always-on mobile broadband connectivity.
The AirLife brand certainly suggests a gadget you carry around and social-network on. ®
