Microsoft to ban 'unauthorised' Xbox 360 memory units
Official HDD or memory stick storage, only
The Xbox 360’s upcoming system update will prevent gamers storing data on "unauthorised" memory units, Microsoft has confirmed.
The update – which also adds Facebook and Twitter support to the console, in addition to a news channel and dedicated music games store – will go out to Preview Program members this week and globally on 17 November.
However, Microsoft has confirmed through its Major Nelson blog that gamers who’ve moved profiles or saved games onto unlicensed memory units would be wise to move them back onto either an Xbox 360 hard drive or an official memory stick.
“If you continue to use an unauthorised Memory Unit after the update, you will not be able to access your stored profile or saved games,” the company warned. ®
