Microsoft Live Messenger in worldwide hiccup
Instant error codes
Users across the globe are reporting that they're unable to log-in to Microsoft's Live Messenger instant messaging service.
According to Reg readers in the UK and users worldwide posting to Twitter and Microsoft's help forums, attempts to log-in have been repeatedly met with the error code 85AE001D.
According to some, the error is accompanied by a message saying that the user's contact list is not available:
WE CAN'T SIGN YOU IN TO WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER
YOUR CONTACT LIST IS NOT AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW, PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER
ERROR CODE: 85AE001D
Users are seeing the glitch on both PCs and mobiles.
We have contacted Microsoft about the issue, and a company spokesperson says it does not have a comment on the issue.
Reports indicate the problem is affecting users in the UK, Europe, Singapore, Brazil, and Canada - among other locations. ®
