Palm getting heavy over non-O2 Pré sales?

Pre-order retailer claims Palm lawyer drop-in

Palm has allegedly called in the lawyers to ensure that O2’s UK exclusivity on the Pré smartphone isn’t broken.

A retailer listing the GSM Pré on pre-order has claimed that lawyers acting on Palm’s behalf have requested that the page be taken down, according to a report by website MyPre.

Last week Register Hardware published details of two retailers accepting pre-orders for what they both claimed would be unlocked versions of the upcoming Palm smartphone.

The Pré, just like the iPhone, will be sold through O2 and so locked to the carrier’s network.

If sold as a pay-as-you-go device then the Pré will likely come with a high price tag, but mean that buyers could potentially unlock the device without signing into a multi-month commitment to O2. ®
