Archos Android 'tablet phone' confirmed

Due next year

Media player specialist Archos will launch an Android-based mobile phone next year, the company has revealed.

Although the firm’s keeping many of the unnamed device’s specifications close to its chest for the time being, it has said the handset will feature a 4.3in display.

The company also confirmed that the device will include HSDPA 3G cellular connectivity, a 1GHz processor and will be no more than a centimetre thick.

Archos doesn’t appear too keen to step away from its media player roots just yet, though, because it refers to the Android phone as a “phone tablet”.

Archos’ Android phone will be available in early 2010.

Archos yesterday introduced an Android-based version of its Archos 5 PMP. ®
