The Register HPC channel is go

Absolutely super!

Say hello to The Register's HPC channel, home to all things about supercomputing. We went live today with this fine debut article - Bechtolsheim: The server is not the network - from our servers editor Timothy Prickett Morgan.

At time of writing, The Reg HPC channel is a simple repository of all our articles about high performance computing. We already cover the major supercomputer vendors, their systems, interconnects, and operating systems. And we already cover the hyperscale Web 2.0 vendors, and the storage and file systems used by HPC and hyperscale clients.

In coming weeks, we will flesh this out with broader and deeper coverage, and we will throw webcasts, in-depth features, research panels, and forums into the mix. The full fat version should be ready in time for SC09, the preeminent show for the supercomputing community which opens in Portland, Oregon on November 14. The Register is a media sponsor of the show and will man a booth. We have nothing to sell as such, but we want to meet as many readers as we can.

Also, we welcome on-board Dan Olds as resident analyst for our HPC channel. Dan is an expert on this topic – his resume includes stints at Cray, Sun, and IBM. We look forward to regular contributions from him.

Lastly, we have launched an HPC email newsletter that goes out every two weeks. Unlike our other newsletters, which are headline links only, this newsletter contains the first paragraph or two of every article we publish on the subject.
