UKUUG Summer Conference 2009

Savings for Reg readers

Reader offer If you want to swap knowledge and learn about the latest happenings in the Open Source and Free Software world, there’s a conference for you in Birmingham this summer.

The conference is the work of our good friends at UKUUG, the UK’s Unix and Open Systems User Group. It takes place on August 8-9 at the Birmingham City University Conservatoire, and is preceded by a day of tutorials on August 7.

Traditionally, UKUUG’s annual conference has been a venue with a very high signal-to-noise ratio for developers and users of open systems. It’s always been highly attractive to top Linux kernel developers — Linus Torvalds was a speaker in 2007. This year’s event extends that focus to cover more Free Software subjects, and reflects that in its new billing as just the UKUUG Summer Conference.

Topics this year include OpenMoko, the collaborative web, parallelism, Drupal, GIMP, LVM, MPs’ expenses, spam fighting, and TeX. Plus there’s still the healthy social scene outside the talk sessions, where attendees can make new friends and renew old acquaintances.

Best of all, we’re pleased to be able to offer Reg readers a substantial discount on the regular price: mention us when you register, and you can get the members’ early-bird rate. That’s just £150 for individuals, a saving of 25 per cent against the normal price. So run, don’t walk, and make sure you get to this summer’s top Free Software event.
