Microsoft buys hot-shot Xbox dev team

A walk in the Big Park

Microsoft was so impressed with the "caliber of talent and innovation at BigPark", a Canadian start up games developer, that it bought the company.

Big Park's development team are moving to Microsoft Games Studios, where they will continue their work on an "exclusive XBox game".

Any clues?

In a canned quote, Phil Spencer, general manager, Microsoft Game Studios hailed the acquisition: “We believe BigPark has tremendous potential to create new properties and innovative gaming experiences for our platforms, one of which we’re looking forward to showcasing at the E3 Expo in June.”

Vancouver-based Big Park was founded in 2007 by former executives of Distinctive Software and Electronic Arts Canada. Their roll call includes “Need for Speed,” “FIFA Soccer,” “NBA Street” and “SSX.”

Terms of the deal are undisclosed.
