Pirate Bay fans: Lay off our neo-Nazi Sugar Daddy

Whatever you do, don't mention Lundstrom

Mail On Friday we learnt the verdict on the Pirate Bay trial in Stockholm. Whilst the Pirate four were hit with jail time and fines, the legal fisticuffs are nowhere near over, with the newly convicted quartet vowing to appeal the decision all the way to the European Court.

One of the four defendants, Carl Lundstrom, has more than an accidental interest in the business. He's one of Europe's wealthiest and busiest neo-Nazi activists, funding over 100 candidates in the nationalist anti-immigration Sweden Democrats party. He's somewhere between the CFO and COO, yet this has barely merited a mention. When we focused on it, file sharers weren't happy with the attention - and lost no time in applying some deodorant spray over this aspect of the story.

He may be a neo- Nazi, but he's our neo Nazi. Donnie Credici writes:

What i see [sic] a guy (Lundstorm) saw a business opportunity and did not try to push a nazi agenda. his personal background is of no importance whatsoever. the issue here is if TPB is legal or not. in my opinion you are as biased as the Wired people that will take the freetard ethos to a religious dogma. you are just their exact opposite. the p2p idealists intentionally or not  fail to report the past of this Lundstorm character (maybe thinking that in some way it would harm the happy nerd image of the PB), while you report it not as a simple fact but as if it had some importance (without doubt hoping that someone will wake up and see the PB as part of a neo-nazi, queer bashing collective). both of you miss the point.

Hey Andrew:

Fuck you.

Yer a not a very adept spin meister.   Just because people haul in booty from Pirate Bay doesn't mean they're "jump"ing in with nor supporting fascists.   And just because the dude reporting from the trial doesn't cast the financier in the Hitlerian light you believe he should be cast in doesn't make the dude a murderer, slave trader, or BBQer or lamp shade maker of human flesh.

Seeing as how I'm of the class yer heaping together with Satan, belly up to the bar with your evidence that the "Freetards" are what you imply they are or maybe you could focus some of your spilled seeds on exposing those pigs Gates and Balmer who have intentionally caused incalculable misery on well intentioned and trusting non"Freetards" who believe their product is "complete" and not broken who dropped $300 for the shit that passes for NEW that requires a patch every other week.

Do you realize that EVERY brand NEW shrink wrapped version of the Windows OS has been shipped BROKEN?   How many hours have you devoted to dealing with "glitches" because of profit motive?

Cheers wanker.

What, are you suggesting that freedom of speech is reserved to those you agree with? Or just trolling to discredit people you hate for some reason?

The idea that The Register can discredit a neo-Nazi is certainly an interesting one. Few people know that when The Pirate Bay was being conceived, we personally advised the Swedish Freetards to go to a neo-Nazi activist. It's all our fault, really! I was also tickled by this observation from Graham, who works for a leather goods company:

Frankly, nobody gives a shit about this type of petty smear tactics. So he's right wing? Is that illegal? So he supports the Swedish version of the BNP? Are they a criminal organisation? So he's been "linked with  a gang of skinheads"? Do you have any actual *evidence* of that? (And linking to an article in Swedish that most readers won't understand isn't exactly helpful.)

"When you invite activists to do your reporting for you, you can be sure that if a fact has an unpleasant odour, it won't be reported - no matter how important it may be"

And when you invite Andrew Orlowski to do your reporting, it appears you can be sure that irrelevant twaddle gets dragged into the debate (look up the logical fallacy of "Poisoning the Well"...

So Nazi are cool? noted - I replied. I wondered if there was a synergy here. Leather - Nazis - good for business, no?

I'll supply anyone with the wherewithal to pay. Even you.

I don't make judgements based on hearsay and innuendo.

Glad to hear it, Graham.

It's not all Nazi-washing though. Colin M. wonders what these strange bedfellows may have in common:

It looks like a natural partnership to me - the mid C20th Nazis were phenomenally hostile to western capitalism, of which IPR is an outstanding feature.  Ideologically, western capitalism was higher on their hit list than communism - it was (in their minds) run by jews, destroyed local community values and drove people away from the land and into the industrial cities - don't forget the nazis were also an anti-industrial back to the country side movement (just like Pol Pot, hippies and Eco warriors).

Freetards may look like a bunch of hippies from the outside but the root of their ideology looks is closer to Bukaninst anarchy - destroy everything in its current form and then do - um - something else (TBA).  The hippy angle that everything should be free is patently unsustainable and merely serves to hasten the destruction which they seek.  None of this self-serving bunch of tossers (hippies, freetards or Nazis) has ever managed a coherent statement on a viable alternative to that which they attack.

So shhh... Don't mention the war the neo-Nazi. ®
