Isilon's EMEA boss leaves

Director of technical services also obtaining coat

Isilon may be sending chief technology officer Paul Rutherford to run its Europe, Middle East and Africa operations, after the departure of Steve Jenkins, VP and general manager for Isilon EMEA, according to industry sources.

Jeff Alsford, Isilon's EMEA director of technical services, is also leaving. Isilon recently announced lower than hoped-for revenues in its final 2008 quarter and has announced a 10 per cent cull of its staff. Rutherford could potentially fill both vacant slots.

However, Isilon is also getting back to business health, the recession notwithstanding, after a near-disastrous period under the leadership of Steve Goldman.

During his time, Isilon went public in an over-subscribed IPO in December 2006. There were then three quarters of poor results and Goldman was ousted, together with his chief financial officer. Financial results for all of 2006 and the first two quarters of 2007 had to be restated, and co-founder and chief technology officer Sujal Patel took on the CEO reins in October, 2007.

He has spent the time since nursing the company back to health. Amongst Patel's activities has been a renewal of the senior executive posts filled in the Goldman years. Promoting Paul Rutherford to fill the vacant CTO post in March last year was one of these moves.

Steve Jenkins joined Isilon in the Goldman years, in July, 2006, from F5 Networks, when Isilon first set up its EMEA organisation with offices in London, Paris and Munich. He was in post on March 19th this year.

Isilon supplies clustered filers and, despite the recession, there are signs of recovery in its business. The company's recently announced new products should help it extend its market reach and, hopefully, regain profitability.

Isilon HQ in the USA confirmed the changes, with a spokesperson saying that it was thought a more seasoned team in EMEA could take Isilon's business there to the next level. ®
