Skype to blame?
Sony and BT have announced the termination of Go!Messenger, their "popular" PSP-oriented VoIP and Instant Messaging service.
Go!Messenger will be canned later this month
A message on the service’s website said that Go!Messenger had failed to gain “the number of regular users that BT and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe were aiming for” despite a "significant" number of registrations. How many they got, and how many they wanted, they wouldn't say.
Go!Messenger will officially die on 31 March.
Go!Messenger is a Europe-wide service that launched in February 2008. It’s officially described as a range of wireless communications features for the PSP, including video calls, voice calls and IM.
The service’s demise could have been sealed by the release of Skype on the PSP, which launched in January 2008 and – unlike Go!Messenger – allows users to call mobiles and landlines too. ®
