An extract from a Nintendo document reveals the updated European DSi launch

The DSi – the latest model in the DS range – will now reach Europe and North America in “Spring-Summer 2009”, according to a product briefing document on Nintendo’s website.

Although the DSi was launched in Japan last November, the company’s President, Satoru Iwata, had previously said that it would land overseas as late as the summer of 2009, though he admitted that "an autumn or year-end launch would probably be too late” for the console.

The DSi beefs up the regular DS Lite's media capabilities with a three-megapixel camera integrated into the lid, a smaller one in the hinge, and a SD memory card slot built into the side. The console’s audio capabilities have been improved too, adding in the ability to adjust pitch and playback.

Although it’s still unknown how much the DSi will be sold for over here, it launched with a guide price of ¥18,900 ($195/£116/€154) in Japan. ®
