NXE fans tempted with refurb Xbox HDD offer

Old drives, new uses

The impending New Xbox Experience will require 128MB of storage when you download it. So Microsoft’s launched a storage upgrade offer to ensure gamers without HDD-equipped consoles can still join in.

Hurrah! Reg Hardware's dusty Arcade is eligible

If you’re an Arcade owner, then 128MB is a fair chunk of your memory card. So, for £20/$30, Microsoft will sell you a "refurbished" 20GB Xbox 360 HDD that’ll give you plenty of storage space for the NXE.

And allow MS to monetise all the drives that have been returned to base with broken consoles.

“But my Xbox isn’t connected to the web,” we hear you cry. Microsoft’s thought of that too, and so will also throw in a three-month membership to Xbox Live, which normally costs £15.

It’s still unclear if similar offers will be made available to Premium or Elite Xbox 360 owners.

NXE is a free Xbox 360 system update that’ll let you “connect with your favourite people and enjoy more games and entertainment online than with any other device connected to your TV”, Microsoft said.

It features, for example, an HD movie downloads section and an area for playing classic games, including Pac-Man and Uno. NXE also lets you create animated avatars.

Microsoft’s Xbox Storage Upgrade offer is available online and for a limited period. NXE will be available to download through the console tomorrow.
